Laramie County School District #1 is considering expanding a rigorous academic program currently offered locally only at East High School to the junior high grades.

Superintendent Mark Stock says the International Baccalaureate Program is an academically advanced, internationally recognized course of study for the most advanced students. He says that while district students as a group are showing solid academic progress, the top students at times are not finding the most advanced available classes challenging enough.

The biggest concerns with expanding the IB program to junior high would be the cost and time needed to implement the new courses "especially at a time when we already have a lot happening" in those schools.

Stock says the proposal is strictly in the discussion stage at this point.
