Hobbs Elementary School in Cheyenne is using a machine that scans students palms to identify holders of school lunch tickets, according to Laramie County School District #1 Superintendent Mark Stock.

He says the technology does not rely on fingerprints, but can identify students by the palms of their hands. Stock says the data on students stored in the machine does not include sensitive personal information, and adds parents of Hobbs students have the choice of opting out of the program if they choose to do so
