Cheyenne Stays in Normal Watering Schedule

Cheyenne expects to fill reservoirs this spring and will keep the same watering rules as last summer.

Board of Public Utilities spokesman Clint Bassett says that means beginning May 1, 2014 you can water your lawns and landscapes up to three days a week, and your gardens and flowers any day, but not between the hours of 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Wasting water, such as allowing water to run down the street, is prohibited. Vehicles may be washed any time, any day, as long as customers use automatic shut-off nozzles on hoses. Washing hard surfaces, such as sidewalks, parking lots or driveways, with a hose is prohibited except for safety, health or construction reasons.

Bassett says BOPU crews will enforce these rules. A first violation may result in a warning. Additional violations will result in fines added to the water bill.

Bassett says as of Sunday, April 20, the five reservoirs that deliver water to Cheyenne contained approximately 11.8 billion gallons of water, or 92.0 percent of capacity. Snow packs in the watersheds near Cheyenne’s reservoirs are above normal for this time of year. As a result, reservoirs are expected to fill this spring.
