Cheyenne Summer Watering Rules Take Effect Today

The Cheyenne Board of Public Utilities [BOPU] is reminding Cheyenne residents that the annual summer watering restrictions take effect today [May 1] and run until Sept. 1. The restrictions include the following:

• From May 1 to September 1 watering between 10 AM to 5 PM is prohibited.

• Customers can water lawns and grass up to three days per week.

• Wasting water, such as allowing water to run down the street is prohibited.

• Gardens and flowers can be watered any day before 10 AM or after 5 PM.

• Customers wanting to water daily to establish new sod or seed must obtain a watering permit and amend soils.

Washing vehicles is allowed anytime all day long, as long as an automatic shut-off nozzle is used on buckets, hoses or water. Washing hard surfaces such as sidewalks, parking lots or driveways with a hose is prohibited except for safety reasons.

The BOPU says snowpack around Cheyenne reservoirs is around 87 percent of normal.

The U.S. drought monitor outlook is calling for abnormally dry conditions for this summer, so more stringent restrictions are possible over the course of the summer if water supplies become tight.
