A Cheyenne elementary school teacher accused of trying to distribute and view child pornography has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Matt Bell, a 6th grade teacher at Henderson Elementary, was arraigned Wednesday in U.S. District Court.

Bell was arrested on December 30 after a monthslong investigation into a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children led to the discovery of 87 images of suspected child porn on his laptop.

Laramie County School District 1 officials say they were alerted to the investigation in November and immediately placed Bell on paid administrative leave.

Bell is facing five to 40 years in prison if convicted. His trial is currently scheduled for late March.
