Cheyenne, Wyoming is now one step closer to part of the most advanced leap in the transportation of the modern age, the Hyperloop One.

A Colorado group is one of 10 finalists for the Elon Musk Hyperloop One high-speed transportation network. The proposed 360-mile path runs from Cheyenne, Wyoming to Pueblo, Colorado. Rocky Mountain Hyperloop is one of the 10 strongest routes and is now ready to move forward with the project that puts passengers and cargo into a pod with gradual acceleration and elevation through a low-pressure tube. Using magnetic levitation, the pod would be able to glide at airline speeds cutting the time from Cheyenne to Denver to just nine minutes.

The Hyperloop One Global Challenge was designed to "identify the strongest new Hyperloop routes in the world." The Rocky Mountain Hyperloop proposal made the top 10 out of 2,600 submissions. Hyperloop One will now enter into a public-private partnership with the Colorado Department of Transportation to launch a feasibility study to bring the project to reality.

“The winning teams of the Hyperloop One Global Challenge represent the best innovation and creativity from government agencies, engineering firms, academics, infrastructure experts and more,”

- Josh Giegel, co-founder and President of Engineering of Hyperloop One.

Winning a position in the top 10 doesn’t get a free Hyperloop, but it does grant access to Elon Musk’s brain trust. Construction could start in a few years.

"Hyperloop One will now work closely with each winning team to validate and analyze their proposals further and provide initial ridership forecasts, business case and preliminary technical analysis of the route and corridor, tailored to the needs of the individual route," - Hyperloop One

Meanwhile, the Chinese are looking to build a 2,300 mph system.
