The City of Cheyenne has hired a private company, on a trial basis, to deal with the large numbers of geese in Holliday and Lions Parks.

City spokesman Scott Smith says Up, Up and Away Goose Control will utilize non-lethal "hazing" methods to convince the birds to relocate. Smith says the company uses specially trained dogs and a remote control airplane to harass the birds.

He goes on to say that if the effort seems to be working over the next couple of weeks or so the city will continue to use the company on a more long-term basis.

Cheyenne officials have been trying for some time to reduce the goose population in the parks, including instituting fines for people caught feeding the birds.

But Smith says the city is still getting widespread complaints about goose feces and reports of the birds hissing and acting aggressively towards park visitors.
