The Cheyenne Veteran Affairs Medical Center will host its annual welcome home event and holiday celebration on Thursday, Dec. 1 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

The event, held for the fourth time since 2013, will take place at the Cheyenne VA Medical Center, 2360 E. Pershing Blvd. in Cheyenne.

Open to all Veterans, their families and the community, the event includes benefits counselors representing VA health care and other Veterans benefits as well as community agency representatives who will be on hand with information on health, vocational, employment, educational opportunities and more.  Veterans will have the opportunity to enroll in VA health care and also receive information about Veterans benefits.

“We want to create the opportunity for any Veteran and his or her loved ones to be able to initiate their health care, as well as be able to visit with those who will be providing  much of their care,” said Chris Aguilar.  Aguilar is the program manager for the transition and care management program.

Veteran Affairs staff members from nearly every service area in the hospital have donated stuffed stockings to give away during the event. Community businesses and volunteers donated their services, food, and quilts as gifts to Veterans. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be ready for the children, along with local musicians to help ring in the holiday spirit.
