Cheyenne VA Hospital Host Caregiver Fairs

In recognition of National Family Caregivers Support Month, the Cheyenne VA Medical Center will hold a series of Family Caregivers Information Fairs on Friday, November 8 and 15, 2013 at the VA from 10:00a.m. – 4:00p.m.

Cheyenne VA Caregiver Support Coordinator Rhonda Riley, LCSW, says this program promotes the health and well-being of Family Caregivers who care for our Nation’s Veterans through education, resources, support and services.

Caregivers of all eras many qualify for the program if the Veteran 1) is unable to perform an activity of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming or difficulty with mobility, or 2) needs supervision or protection based on other impairment to injury (such as a spinal cord injury). Caregivers of eligible Veterans may qualify for skilled nursing, home health aide, Home Based Primary Care, medical equipment, telehealth, home modification, Aid and Attendance, and up to thirty days of respite care.

This year’s Caregiver and Education series includes fall prevention, elder abuse and neglect, nutritional meal preparation for older adults and understanding PTSD for caregivers. Anyone caring for Veterans is encouraged to come to the VA to learn about programs available to caregivers and Veterans.
