Cheyenne Mayor Marian Orr unveiled the city's 150th anniversary logo and introduced her sesquicentennial steering committee during a public event at the former Union Pacific Depot this (Wednesday) morning.

"Celebrations will begin on July 4, the day our forefathers stood along the banks of Crow Creek and gave Cheyenne her name and raised a toast," said Orr. "On August 8, we will celebrate Cheyenne's sesquicentennial, that's the day we were officially incorporated."

"More celebrations will follow throughout the year, including Fort D.A. Russell's 150th and the day that the UP rail line reached Cheyenne on November 13," she added.

Orr says the steering committee will be working very closely with Visit Cheyenne on the celebration and she encourages residents to share their ideas with them.

Those on the steering committee are:

  • Former Mayor Bill Nation, Honorary Chairman
  • Mona Pearl, Committee Coordinator
  • Beth Edwards
  • Alfrieda Gonzales
  • Pete Illoway
  • Jonath Jackson
  • Lisa Murphy
  • Phil Van Horn

"You can monitor progress at the website cheyenne150.com," said Orr. "We really want to hear from you, so go to the page and you can email us and contact us there."
