Plans for the ''Children's Museum of Cheyenne" are moving ahead, according to the President of the organization's Board of Directors.

Amy Surdam says the schematic and conceptual design phases are now complete, adding the board would like feedback from the public to make sure ''we are on the right track."

Conceptually the museum wants to emphasize exhibits dealing with science, technology, engineering, arts and math or ''STEAM."  All of the exhibits would be interactive, allowing kids to learn by a ''hands on" approach.

The current plans call for a three story museum, with the first floor featuring a fire truck and firefighting equipment.

The museum's estimated cost is about $20 million, and the board is hoping to open the museum in late 2017 or early 2018.

The museum will be located in the West Lincolnway property commonly known as ''the hole." The property once housed a bakery, but that business was destroyed by a 2003 fire and has sat vacant ever since.

It is widely considered an eyesore, and city officials had for years been trying to fill the vacant lot before the proposal  to build the Children's Museum was put forward.
