Cindy Hill Must Wait To Get Job Back

State schools Superintendent Cindy Hill will have to wait longer in her effort to regain control of the Wyoming Department of Education.┬áLaramie County District Judge Thomas Campbell decided Tuesday not to issue an immediate order to reinstate Hill’s former duties.

In January, the Wyoming Supreme Court ruled that Senate File 104, passed by the Wyoming Legislature in 2013, which removed Hill as the head of the education department was unconstitutional. The Supreme Court sent the case back to the district court to decide how the lawsuit should be resolved.

Wyoming Attorney General Peter Michael argued Tuesday that the state believes there are parts of Senate File 104 that may be constitutional and asked the judge to allow the state to brief the matter. Robert DiLorenzo, representing Hill said the Wyoming Supreme Court was “crystal clear” about any further delays in restoring Hill’s duties.

Judge Campbell ordered attorneys for the state and Hill to file written analyses over the next three weeks on whether any parts of Senate File 104 are constitutional. Judge Campbell said once he has received the briefs, he would likely issue a decision quickly on the matter.
