The Citizen's Police Academy is a special community education and involvement program developed to increase citizen awareness and understanding of the role of law enforcement. The academy is designed for citizens of all backgrounds and occupations. Upon completion of the comprehensive nine-week course, academy graduates will be better informed citizens with a new outlook on law enforcement and their Cheyenne Police Department.

Curriculum
The curriculum will include training and applications of constitutional law, criminal investigations, narcotics, as well as crime scene processing. Additionally, students will learn actively about defensive tactics, traffic enforcement, building searches, and firearms familiarization. Several practical exercises will be conducted so students can actually perform many elements of everyday law enforcement on the streets of Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Restrictions
Applicants must be at least 18-years-old, agree to a background investigation, have a valid driver’s license, and complete a waiver of liability. Space is limited to 30 valid applicants.

Applicants must attend and participate in at least seven of the nine training sessions to graduate. Classes are held every Wednesday night from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm MST. There will be one Saturday class scheduled for firearms / SWAT / bomb training.
