Cheyenne Mayor Rick Kaysen says a deal to sell 23.8 acres located at the intersection of Windmill Road and Dell Range to the Menards retail chain was finalized on June 14th.

Kaysen says the retail outlet is paying $5.3 Million in a direct payment for the property and has also agreed to spend another $2.2 Million in public improvements, including sewer infrastructure, in that area.

The mayor says work on the Cheyenne store should get underway this summer, with an opening date in the spring  of 2013 expected. Kaysen says once the store is open it is expected to contribute about 220 jobs to the local economy. He says additional benefits in terms of tax revenues and increased local spending are difficult to calculate at this point, but should  be very significant to Cheyenne’s economy.

The mayor also says over the long term a Menards distribution center in Cheyenne is a real possibility, especially since the Cheyenne Menards is the retailer’s first step in expanding into the Front Range area. Kaysen says he also expects the Windmill/Dell Range location to eventually house other businesses such as hotels and restaurants.
