The City of Cheyenne and the union representing local firefighters have reached a contract agreement.

The contract calls for a 1 percent pay raise for firefighter for fiscal year 2016, which begins July 1, 2015. The agreement also covers fiscal year 2017, with firefighters not scheduled to get a raise over that period.

The city did agree to keep most specialty pay for firefighters who serve as EMT's and other specialized roles in place. The International Association of Firefighters Local 279 in turn accepted a lower base salary increase than they had originally asked for.

The agreement still must be officially ratified, but that is considered to be highly likely.
