Last year, University of Wyoming linebacker Oscar Nevermann announced his intention to transfer to the University of North Dakota. In spite of a rule that allows transfers from the FBS division to play immediately at FCS division schools, Wyoming Coach Craig Bohl refused to let Nevermann play this season.

In fairness, Nevermann would have been allowed to suit up for the Bison had they not been on Wyoming's schedule. UW's athletic department cited a rule that prohibits transfers from immediately playing for schools that the Cowboys compete against.

Nevermann appealed UW's ruling, noting his lack of playing time and his desire to play a new position. In a decision that would ultimately backfire on Bohl and the Cowboys, Nevermann's appeal was denied.

According to Inforum.com, Nevermann was slated to be the starting running back for North Dakota coming out of spring practice. After Wyoming forced him to sit out the season, he was replaced by true freshman John Santiago.

In Santiago's debut, he ran for 148 yards and two touchdowns, leading North Dakota to a 24-13 victory in the season opener vs. Wyoming.
