Commissioner Supports Gas Tax Increase

Laramie County Commissioner  Keith "Buck" Holmes says that as much as he dislikes paying an extra ten cent per gallon gasoline tax, he thinks the legislature did the right thing by imposing the extra tax during it's recent session.

Holmes, who is a rancher, notes the tax will affect him personally because he uses a fair amount of fuel. But he says the cost of damage to vehicles caused by potholes and poor roads also would have an economic impact. Holmes says he saw the gas tax issue as a situation where "we can pay now or pay later", adding "there is no such thing as a free lunch".

Holmes says the bottom line is that the roads and highways need to be maintained, even if it does cost people a little more at the pump.
