An official from The Stamford Advocate made a public apology Thursday Jan. 3rd for publishing an advertisement for a gun show next to a story about Sandy Hook children going back to school.

An advertisement in Connecticut newspaper The Stamford Advocate for the “East Coast Fine Arms Show” appeared on the same page as an article about Sandy Hook children returning to school for the first time.  This photo was taken by Naim Ukperaj.  Paul Farrell, Group Publisher for Hearst Media Services in Connecticut, said in an email:  ”:Our newspapers should not be running gun ads — including ads for antique and collectible gun shows — next to stories about Sandy Hook. It’s insensitive, and it shouldn’t have happened. It was an oversight, and we apologize for it. We have taken steps to make sure it doesn’t happen again.”

The town of Stamford sit only 40 miles away from Newtown, where the horrific killings took place on Dec.14th, 2012.  Officials ensure steps are being taken to prevent oversights like this from happening again.
