Council Bans Waterfowl Feeding
The Cheyenne City Council voted 8-2 Monday night to ban the feeding of ducks and geese on city owned property. The ban was originally proposed to the council by Assistant Parks and Recreation Director Todd Feezer, who said the feeding of the birds was causing them to live throughout the year in large numbers in several city parks, especially Holliday Park. Cheyenne Mayor Rick Kaysen says this was leading to sanitation and health issues because of the large amounts of feces left behind by the birds. He also said that while people may enjoy feeding the birds, some of the foods people were giving them–such as french fries and bread–are not healthy for ducks and geese. The ban approved by the council calls for fines of between $10-$25 dollars for people caught feeding the birds. Council members Don Pierson and Jimmy Valdez voted against the ban.
