Cowboys Blast Texas State, 45-10
Wyoming scored in all three phases of the game, as the Cowboys won their second straight with a 45-10 victory over Texas State Saturday in Laramie.
Josh Allen threw for 219 yards and three touchdowns. Two of those went to C.J. Johnson and the other to Austin Conway.
The Pokes got defensive touchdowns from Rico Gafford and Logan Wilson. Gafford returned an interception 37 yards for a score. Wilson recorded a sack, forced fumble and fumble recovery on the same play. He returned it 18 yards for a TD.
On special teams, Tyler Hall returned a kick-off 95 yards for a touchdown. It was the second consecutive game Hall has taken a kick-off back for a score. Hall also became the first player in Cowboy football history with two kick-off return touchdowns.
Wyoming head coach Craig Bohl was pleased with the team victory. He spoke with the media about his team’s performance; the improvement in the passing game; the plays made by the defense and in special teams; and also the passing of former Cowboys head coach Joe Tiller.

Wyoming (3-2) scored 31 points in the second quarter. After the Bobcats took a 3-0 lead, Allen found Johnson from 22 yards out that put UW ahead 7-3. The Pokes scored again 11 seconds later on Gafford’s pick six.
Texas State pulled within 14-10 on a 5-yard Damian Williams to Elijah King TD pass.
Hall returned the ensuing kick-off for a touchdown and a 21-10 lead. After the Cowboys defense forced a quick three-and-out, Allen found Johnson from 15-yards out. UW added a 28-yard Cooper Rothe field goal on the final play of the first half for a 31-10 lead.
Wilson’s TD came on the Bobcats’ second offensive play of the third quarter. Another three-and-out led to a 13-play drive by UW. Allen found Conway from 8-yards out.
Wyoming finished with 333 yards of offense. Wilson led the defense with 12 tackles. Youhanna Ghaifan added nine tackles, including four tackles for loss and two sack. He also forced a fumble. The Pokes defense had four sacks, 11 tackles for loss, forced three fumbles, recovered one and had an interception.
Texas State (1-4) was held to 262 yards offense. Willie Jones III had 57 yards rushing, while Williams added 91 yards passing.
This marked the first back-to-back wins for Wyoming this season. The Cowboys have a bye in their schedule next weekend. They return to action Oct. 14 at Utah State. Kick-off will be at 2:30 p.m.
