The Wyoming Cowboys failed to capitalize on some opportunities to take the lead in the last five minutes and lost at San Jose State 62-55 Wednesday night.

The Spartans victory snapped a 27-game Mountain West Conference losing streak.

Wyoming (9-9, 2-3) trailed by 13 in the first half. They trimmed the deficit to 11 at half, 34-23. The Cowboys kept chipping away until they pulled within one with just over six minutes left.

In the final five minutes and down by only one point, Wyoming came up empty on four possessions with a chance to take the lead. They missed a pair of lay-ups, one of which was blocked, and the Pokes also had two turnovers.

San Jose State (6-11, 1-4) closed it out with six free throws.

The Cowboys shot only 35 percent from the field, which included just 27 percent beyond the arc. Alan Herndon led the Pokes with 14 points and four rebounds. Jason McManamen added 13 points, while Josh Adams was held to a season-low 10 point.

The Spartans shot 46 percent from the floor. They out-rebounded UW 39-22. San Jose State had four players in double figures led by Garry Williams, Jr. with 18 points off the bench.

Wyoming tries to bounce back at New Mexico Saturday afternoon. The only meeting of the season between the two will tip-off at 2 p.m.
