Wyoming volleyball was chosen fourth in the 2017 Preseason Mountain West Coaches’ Poll revealed Wednesday by the Mountain West.

It’s the third consecutive year the Cowgirls have been tabbed for a top-four finish in the conference.

UW went 18-13 last year, which included an 11-7 mark in the MW. They finished fourth in 2016. The Cowgirls return nine letterwinners from last season. They have an exhibition match at Northern Colorado Friday at 6 p.m. before the annual Brown and Gold Scrimmage Saturday at 6:30 p.m. in the Uni-Wyo Sports Complex.

Colorado State was selected as the favorite to win the league title. They received eight first-place votes and 98 points in balloting. Defending champion Boise State earned the other three first-place tallies and got picked second. They are followed by San Diego State and then the Cowgirls. After UW, it’s Nevada in fifth and Utah State sixth. The rest of the MW Preseason Poll has UNLV, San Jose State, New Mexico, Fresno State and Air Force.

For the first time in a few years, no Cowgirls was selected to the Preseason All-MW Team. There are four players from Colorado State, two from Boise State and one from San Diego State. Boise State senior outside hitter Sierra Nobley was chosen as the Preseason Player of the Year.

KOWB’s David Settle had a chance to visit with junior outside hitter Emily Lewis back at Wyoming Media Day. They discussed the excitement of a new season, replacing some key players, some of their focus areas and more, including a message for Cowgirl fans.
