Creedence Clearwater Revisited Has No Plans To Reunite With John Fogerty

Even as the offshoot Creedence Clearwater Revisited celebrates its 20th year together, questions remain about the possibility of a reunion with former bandmate John Fogerty. Drummer Doug “Cosmo” Clifford, who co-founded the original Creedence Clearwater Revival with Fogerty, says that time has passed.

“I like the guys that I’m working with now,” Clifford tells ABC News Radio. “I suppose if the original band got together again, the money would be huge, but life is short and the idea is to have as much fun as you can while you’re on the planet. So, I wish him well and he’s got his band and we have ours, and we’re happy where we are.”

Creedence Clearwater Revisited is rounded out by fellow Revival alum Stu Cook on bass, singer/guitarist John Tristao, lead guitarist Kurt Griffey and multi-instrumentalist Steve Gunner. John Fogerty’s brother Tom, who died in 1990, completed the original CCR lineup, which only lasted from 1967-71 but issued six albums on quick ride to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Unfortunately, the subsequent ill will was such that Fogerty appeared on stage at the 1993 induction ceremony without either Cook or Clifford. Not long after, Clifford and Cook formed Creedence Clearwater Revisited and hit the road. An on-going North American tour continues on April 11 in New Mexico, with dates following through September.

“Time flies when you’re having fun,” Clifford adds. “It seems like we just got started a few years ago, but it’s been an amazing couple of decades. We started not really knowing how we would be perceived by the public and it’s been great since the first show. In fact, at this point in time, we have more young fans than we do older fans and the fan base is growing in the right direction, which is probably our proudest accomplishment.”
