Do you like to feed the wildlife around Cheyenne over the winter?

It always surprises me how many different critters show up when I fill up the bird feeder or leave a pile of peanuts on the back porch.

When the snow is flying, the wind is blowing and the temperatures dip below freezing I feel for the wild animals trying to survive the elements around our area. It seems like the squirrels and pairs of Blue Jays who raid my peanut stack are appreciative of the food. Sometimes the competition between species is a joy to watch.

I fill up our bird feeder when I can, and I'm pleased at how many types of birds fly in. Mostly it's the flocks of Sparrows, but sometimes a pair of Mourning Doves knock the smaller birds off the feeder or a Woodpecker will swoop in for a bite.

I've even occasionally seen a little bright yellow canary-like bird and small red-faced birds. It's fun to watch their behavior around each other, some seem to be very aggressive while others are more passive.

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department has an atlas that shows the numerous species of wild animals that reside in the Cowboy State, including different types of birds.

The City of Cheyenne discourages the feeding of wild geese in the parks, they say this has led to some overly aggressive behavior toward humans.
