Downtown Cheyenne lost another business last week when 'The Drunken Skunk', a popular nightclub and music venue on 1612 Capitol Avenue, closed its doors. According their official Facebook page, a recent managerial change led to the decision.

For several years, the club occupied a large space on one of the historic blocks in the city. It was also a venue for local and regionally touring rock and country music acts.

The Drunken Skunk is the second Capitol Avenue establishment to go out of business recently. Earlier this month, Camille's Gumbo House, a Cajun restaurant located next door at 1613 Capitol, announced it was shutting down.

Which begs the question, will other local merchants want to rent the two historic downtown venues? It doesn't seem likely that an entire block in the heart of the city will remain vacant for long. Then again, if the historic Tivoli can sit unoccupied, which it has since the Freedom's Edge Brewing Company relocated last year, who knows what will happen?
