Early this morning, Napa, CA rolled through a 6.0 earthquake. I rode through the last major earthquake in that area in 1989. Wyoming has had our fair share.

Napa, CA suffered a 6.0 earthquake this morning and damage was widespread. It was centered only 6 miles from Napa in America Canyon, CA. I was on the air at KXXX San Francisco in November 1989 when the Loma Preita quake hit. It was centered more than 60 miles south of San Francisco and did considerable damage.  Earthquakes are scary. unlike a hurricane or tornado you have no warning. The earth starts shaking and you perform a feat I call land surfing.

Officials in the city of Napa say 15 to 16 buildings are no longer inhabitable after Sunday's earthquake, and there is only limited access to numerous other structures. This was the worst on San Francisco for weeks after the 1989 quake. They began tagging buildings with colors. Our building was a modern office building and sustained no damage and the radio station stayed on the air, while most others were off to damage to broadcast equipment. Being in an earthquake sucks and there's nothing you can do but ride it out in the safest place in the structure you are in.

What about Wyoming, we hear that Yellowstone is seismically active and has earthquakes almost everyday. Earthquakes in Casper, Rock Springs and other cities in our state have had some major shakers.
