Evanston Woman Dead After Collision on Wyoming Highway 89

An 18-year-old Evanston woman sustained fatal injuries Sunday afternoon when her pickup truck went into a spin on a wet highway and was struck by another vehicle.

Christine Finney, 18, was driving a 2007 Dodge Dakota northbound on WY 89 on the afternoon of May 22. According to the Wyoming Highway Patrol, she attempted to pass another northbound vehicle at 3:53 p.m. near milepost three, about two miles north of Evanston.

As she began to pass, she saw a 1987 Dodge W250 pickup truck coming toward her in the southbound lane. She attempted to re-enter the northbound lane, but overcorrected and went into a spin. The spin took Finney’s vehicle into the southbound lane and the path of the Dodge W250, driven by 18-year-old Adam Mueske of Evanston.

The Wyoming Highway Patrol says despite Mueske’s attempt to avoid Finney’s pickup, the two vehicles collided in a “t-bone” style crash and ended up in the west ditch.

Finney, who was not wearing her seatbelt during the crash but was not thrown from the vehicle, was taken by ambulance to Evanston Regional Hospital. She later died of her injuries.

Mueske and two passengers in his truck were also taken by ambulance to Evanston Regional, where they were hospitalized for their injuries.

Investigators suspect speed and precipitation contributed to the crash. Finney was the 20^th person killed on Wyoming highways in 2016. The same time period in 2015 saw 48 highway fatalities.
