Do people have any idea why we celebrate Veterans Day in Cheyenne? Here are some facts about this honorable day that you may not have known.  Today on the Top 5 at 7:45, I'll highlight facts about our blessed veterans on this day that we honor them and recognize all who have ever donned the U.S. Military Uniform.

  1. Veterans Day was originally called "Armistice Day" on November 11, 1919, which was the first anniversary after World War I.
  2. Veterans are people who have served in our military in one or more of our service branches. U.S. Army, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Navy and Air Force in times of peace and war.
  3. There are currently 1.8 million female veterans in the United States.
  4. There are more than 9 million veterans over the age of 65.
  5. The unemployment rate of veterans is 3% higher than the rest of the U.S. population.
