My daughter is five months old, and at this point her experience of popular culture is mostly limited to board books. (She’s a big fan of DC’s My First Book of Girl Power.) She’s too young to watch movies or television, despite my repeated insistence that Gymkata is an important work of art that must be considered and appreciated.

We do play music for her, though. Her favorites (at least judging by the amount of wiggling and laughing) are Beyoncé (she really likes “Single Ladies”), “Uptown Funk,” and the original Ray Parker Jr. “Ghostbusters” theme song.

She loves that song. She loves it so much that if I just scream “Ghostbusters!” at her at any time, she squeals with delight and kicks her feet like a maniac. What can I say? Busting makes her feel good.

With a new Ghostbusters headed to theaters next month, there was never a doubt in my mind that the classic Ghostbusters theme would be repurposed for the reboot in some way. The only question was how. The film’s trailer had two different versions of the song; a slow piano version and a modern dubstep-y remix. But neither of those variations came with any lyrics about something strange in the neighborhood or invisible men sleeping in your bed (which is actually kinda creepy when you think about it). So who will do the Ghostbusters theme 2.0?

Billboard observed this tweet from Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz, revealing that the band is covering Parker Jr.’s original, with an assist from Missy Elliott:

In other new Ghostbusters news, Sony is designating June 8 as “Ghostbusters Day” with original cast members Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Annie Potts joining new stars Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones on Jimmy Kimmel Live for a special appearance, while 800 theaters around the country will unveil more footage from the movie at a repertory screenings of the original 1984 film. They also released Elle King’s “Good Girls,” the first single from the film’s soundtrack.

Now who is going to redo Bobby Brown’s “On Our Own” from Ghostbusters II? (Side note: “On Our Own” is a great underrated karaoke song. Too hot to handle, too cold to hold, etc. My daughter likes that one too.) Ghostbusters opens in theaters on July 15.
