With a change in weather rolling in late Sunday, you’ll want to get into the wilds of Wyoming early to bring home some fish for the family. The lakes, reservoirs and streams will have fewer people and lots more of what most of us like, time alone and room to fish.

A good place to start would be The North Platte, running clear from Gray Reef through Casper. San Juan Worms would be a good choice for the North Platte River and Encampment River.

Hit the Snowy Range with a jacket and some Panther Martins and crawlers for an excellent fishing experience. And remember that Wyoming Game & Fish just placed over a thousand Golden Trout in the ponds at Pole Mountain. In addition to those 8-inchers, you’ll likely catch some healthy Cutthroat Trout with some crawdads and crawlers. Got that smoker ready to put away some fish for winter?

Fishing is good right now, but just keep an eye on the weather and bear in mind the hunters are taking advantage of the season as well. Wear your orange and stay visible.
