Three finalist candidates for the University of Wyoming presidency were publicly identified by the UW Board of Trustees Friday afternoon.  The candidates’ public appearances on campus will begin Dec. 7.

The candidates hoping to become the next UW president are Duane Nellis, president of Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX; Jeremy Haefner, senior vice president for academic affairs and provost at the Rochester Institute of Technology in Henrietta, N.Y.; and Laurie Nichols, executive vice president for academic affairs and provost of South Dakota State University in Brookings, S.D.

Nellis will visit Monday, Dec. 7; Nichols on Wednesday, Dec. 9; and Haefner on Monday, Dec. 14.  Each finalist will follow the same schedule of appearances:

  • 9:30-10:30 a.m. – Meeting with faculty in the Education Building auditorium.
  • 10:45-11:45 a.m. – Meeting with students in the Arts and Sciences auditorium.
  • 1:15-2:15 p.m. – Meeting with staff in Room 129 of the Classroom Building.
  • 3-4 p.m. – Public presentation, open forum, and question-and-answer session for students, faculty, staff, and community members at the UW Conference Center.

The meetings can all be viewed online, either live or recorded, through the UW WyoCast system.  Links will be available at the university’s presidential search webpage.

Each candidate will be interviewed in an executive session of the Board of Trustees at 5 p.m. the day of their visit in the Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center. The candidates will also meet with UW Executive Council, deans, and directors.

The Board of Trustees will seek public comment before selecting the new board.  Online questionnaires for Nellis, Nichols, and Haefner can be filled out at the links provided.  Deadline for comments is 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15.
