A proposed contract between the City of Cheyenne and local firefighters won a positive recommendation from the City Council Finance Committee on Monday and is now headed to the full council for final consideration.

The agreement between the city and the International Association of Firefighters Local 279 would cover the next two fiscal years (2016 and 2017). Fiscal year 2016 begins on July 1, 2015.

Mayor Rick Kaysen says under the proposed contract firefighters would receive a 1 percent Cost of Living Adjustment for the first year of the contract, but no raise for the second year, or Fiscal Year 2017.

The city also kept in place specialty pay for firefighters who serve in designated roles such as EMTs.

The proposed contract now goes to the full city council at it's next meeting on April 13th.
