Multiple firefighters were injured Thursday morning while battling a house fire north of Cheyenne.

According to Laramie County Fire District #2, crews were called to 1875 Road 224 at 9:19 a.m. after the homeowner reported smoke and flames coming from the home.

The homeowner told first responders that he'd smelled smoke earlier in the morning when he left home, but figured it was someone burning in the area.

Additional resources were called in when the flames spread to the attic spaces and, because of high winds and a lack of water, the decision was made at 10:27 a.m to pull personnel out of the house and switch to an exterior strategy.

Roughly eight minutes later, a large explosion occurred, injuring multiple firefighters.

Two firefighters from LCFD2 were taken to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center with minor injuries where they were treated and released.

Laramie County Fire Districts 1, 2 and 6, the Wyoming Air National Guard, F.E. Warren Air Force Base and American Medical Response responded to the fire.

The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
