Harry Fisher and Thomas Atkinson reached the finish line in time and advanced to Friday's quarterfinals in the men's 800 meters.

The graduate students were among the top 24 in the first round of the 800 Thursday at the NCAA West Preliminary in Austin, TX.

Fisher ran the ninth-fastest time in 1:49.51, while Atkinson came in with a time of 1:49.92, good for 14th place. They will race in the quarterfinals Friday at 6:15 p.m., Mountain Time.

They were the only two of the eight Wyoming student-athletes to advance.

Freshman Rick Faure struggled in his first regional and finished 41st in the same race with a time of 1:52.36.

A pair of Cowgirls just missed moving on. Sophomore Kerry White came in 25th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:10.08, which .56 seconds out of the last qualifying spot. Senior Erin Kirby was also close. She missed out on advancing by .18 seconds in the 400 hurdles. Kirby was 27th in a time of 1:00.49.

Senior Holly Page was back in the pack in the 10,000 meters. She finished 27th in 36:07.33. Senior Shreese Daniels came in 46th in the hammer. Her best toss was 167-1. Senior Paul Thomas had a rough go in the discus, as he fouled on all three attempts.
