Governor Matt Mead signed a proclamation declaring Wednesday, May 7 as School Nurse Day in Wyoming.

In the proclamation the governor said:

school nurses perform health screenings, coordinate referrals with private providers and advocate for a healthy school environment....support student success by addressing the physical, mental, emotional and social health needs of students under their care...professional nursing in schools is an important part of keeping students safe, healthy and ready to learn..I do hearby proclaim May 7th, 2014 as School Nurse Day in Wyoming in recognition of the contributions of school nurses in Wyoming.

According to Laramie County School District #1 head nurse Chris Bartholomew, school nurses care for a wide variety of students with chronic and short-term illnesses. She added these individuals are specialists in school nursing and providing support for children in the educational environment.
