Wyoming Governor Matt Mead is asking the Bureau of Land Management to make a decision about a proposed southwest Wyoming natural gas project as soon as possible.

In a letter to the BLM, the governor asked the agency to issue a record of decision on the Normally Pressured Lance [NLP] natural gas project by the end of the year. The agency recently issued it's draft environmental review of the project.

Governor Mead says the project could produce more than 5 trillion cubic feet of natural gas and create 700 full-time jobs. He also said the BLM has already been studying the project since 2011.

The governor said permitting new oil and gas projects "is a priority." He went on to call the NPL "a great opportunity."
