Grammy Award Classic Rock Surprises

Mick Jagger performed for his first time at the Grammy Awards on Sunday, Neil Young won his first ever and other classic rock artists picked up trophies too.

Jeff Beck, the Rock and Roll Hall Of Famer, who may reunite with Rod Stewart later this year picked up three Grammy Awards.

The Rolling Stones' lead singer paid tribute to the late R & B singer Solomon Burke. This was Mick Jagger's first live appearance at the Awards.

Neil Young has won a multitude of awards in his career but never a Grammy until last weekend when he was awarded his first for "Angry World" off last year's Le Noise album. It won for Best Rock Song.

The Doors won a Grammy for the Best Long Form Music Video called "When You're Strange." A documentary about the life of The Doors members that came out in 2009.

John Paul Jones, bassist for Led Zeppelin, won a Grammy with his new group Them Crooked Vultures which includes Dave Grohl and Josh Homme. Their song "New Fang" won for Best Hard Rock Performance.

Green Day was awarded a Grammy in an unlikely category, Best Musical Show Album. The punk trio from Berkley took home the trophy for the Broadway musical of  American Idiot.

The Beatles are also still winning accolades, picking up the Grammy for Best Historical Album and Sir Paul McCartney won Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance for "Helter Skelter" on his Good Evening New York City release.

Bob Dylan even performed "Maggie's Farm" with help from the Avett Brothers and Mumford & Sons at the award's ceremony.

So 2011 was a good Grammy year for many of the artists we play on KING FM.
