Have you ever seen The Grateful Dead Movie? The You Tube animated clip is just the beginning of the film.

The movie has not been in theaters nationwide since it's release in 1977, but tonight on April 20th 540 theaters across the country are showing it. The nearest location is the Cinemark Theaters, 4721 South Timberline in Ft. Collins, also at theaters in Greeley, Loveland, Boulder and several locations in Denver.

Today's special showing includes never-before-seen interviews with Jerry Garcia and Bob Weir filmed during production of the original movie.

The rockumentary was recorded in 1974 at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco. Some of the songs performed by the Grateful Dead include "U.S. Blues," "One More Saturday Night," "Casey Jones," "Playin' in the Band" and "Sugar Magnolia." There's even an encore covering Chuck Berry's "Johnny B. Goode."

The band's lineup at the time was Jerry Garcia on lead guitar, Bob Weir playing rhythm guitar, Phil Lesh on bass, Bill Kreutzmann on drums, keyboards by Keith Godchaux and his wife Donna on backing vocals. Mickey Hart also joins the band as the second drummer during the film, which includes glimpses into the Deadhead's caravan following around the band.

I would recommend the movie as a must see for Deadheads and a great introduction to the band for non-Deadheads.
