An Ice fishing accident Monday on Flaming Gorge Reservoir claimed the life of a 61 year old Green River man.

Sweetwater County Sheriff's Department spokesman Dick Blust says 61 year old John Henderson fell through the ice early Monday afternoon while fishing in the Lost Dog area.

A pair of men who were trying to retrieve a four wheeler that had fallen through the ice heard him calling for help. They tried to reach him with a rope, but were unsuccessful.

The men then retrieved a canoe from their vehicle and tried to use it to save him, but Henderson sank out of sight. The men then hiked to an area where they could get cell phone service and called for help.

Henderson's body was eventually recovered by divers early Tuesday morning. Sweetwater County Coroner Dale Majhonovich says Henderson died from a combination of drowning and hypothermia.
