Super Bowl XLV will feature two franchises with long histories. The Green Bay Packers are the second oldest franchise in professional football, they were formed in 1919. The Pittsburgh Steelers are the oldest team in the American Football Conference and the fifth oldest in the NFL, they were started in 1933.

Both teams have won their share of Super Bowls, too. The Steelers own the record for the most victories with six, while Green Bay has collected three trophies.

Most recently Pittsburgh defeated Arizona in Super Bowl XLIII. They also beat Seattle in 2006, and won two in a row in 1979 over Dallas and 1980 defeating the Los Angeles Rams. The Steelers also had two consecutive victories in the mid 70's, beating the Vikings in 1975 and the Cowboys one year later in Super Bowl X.

Under Vince Lombardi the Green Bay Packers won the first two Super Bowls, in 1967 over the Kansas City Chiefs and the next year in Super Bowl II they defeated the Oakland Raiders. Their other NFL championship was in 1996 with a victory over New England in Super Bowl XXXI.
