The countdown is on. I am getting super excited to cross an item off of my bucket list. I am preparing to embark on a week long backcountry elk hunt. This is something I have wanted to do for years, and my time is almost here. So far the biggest challenge is packing for the week long adventure. Carrying all of my supplies for a whole week of hunting, I need to make room for the essentials.

Since this is my first backcountry hunt, I have learned that the biggest MUST HAVES are a reliable source of water and enough food to last me the duration of the trip. I have shopped for pre-packaged dehydrated meals, but they are expensive. And, to be honest, I am a little worried they are going to taste like I'm eating packing peanuts. With a couple days remaining before I leave, I have decided to try and make my own meals at home.

It is easier than you might think, and a lot more cost effective. If you plan to trek into the backcountry this fall, check out the very informative video from BowTech Live.
