Hundreds March In Memory Of Martin Luther King

Local and state political leaders, clergy members and other residents joined together for the annual Martin Luther King Jr. march on Monday in Cheyenne.

Cheyenne Mayor Rick Kaysen said the annual event is important to ''recognize and pay tribute to Dr. King who did so much for all people". Kaysen says all parts of society benefited from King's work as a civil rights leader. He also says the 'country has unquestionably changed for the better" over the years because of the work of King and other civil rights leaders.

Besides Kaysen, notable political figures taking part in the march included Governor Matt Mead and Secretary of State Max Maxfield. The march route ran from the Cheyenne Depot Plaza to the steps of the state Capitol Building, with marchers singing "we shall overcome" along the route.
