With National Teen Driver Safety Week coming up October 19-25, Cheyenne Regional Medical Center Injury Prevention Coordinator Stephanie Hietsch is urging parents to talk to their teenage children about "Five For Drive" safety rules.

Those rules include not drinking and driving, not texting or using a cellphone while driving, wearing seat belts, obeying speed limits and not having more than one passenger in the car at any one time.

Heitsch says while the first four are good rules for all motorists, the passenger rule has special importance to teenage drivers because many accidents involving young drivers are caused because of distractions caused by multiple passengers.

Heitsch says that while parents may assume common sense would dictate the "Five for Drive" rules, it's still a good idea to discuss them with young drivers as a reminder.
