IRS Warns Of Phony E-mails

Internal Revenue Service spokeswoman Karen Connelly is warning taxpayers about phony e-mails.

Connelly says the agency will NEVER make its initial contact with taxpayers via email. She adds the agency will likewise never ask you to send them personal financial information. Such emails are another effort by con-artists to either get your personal financial information or, in some cases, send money to them directly.

Connelly warns that some emails are well-written and may appear to be legitimate. You can always verify the legitimacy of any communicationg from the IRS by calling 1-800-827-1040.
