An Iowa school board has proposed eliminating letter grades in 6th, 7th and 8th grades -- and replacing them with "standards-based reporting."

According to Des Moines Register:

This means students would be rated "beginning," "developing," "secure" or "exceeds" in 10 to 12 objectives per subject.  As the debate rages, the teachers tend to be in favor of the system, while many parents oppose the change.

Other parents are asking that both methods be used this fall.

Do you think the letter-grade system should be eliminated?
