John Mellencamp performed at the Temple Buell Theatre in Denver April 6th as part of a 33-date tour that started in February. For his first theater tour since 1997, Mellencamp is playing a more than two-hour long show that includes a solo acoustic miniset and a country-blues combo, before finishing with his full band.

The Indiana singer/songwriter is touring in support of his 25th album, No Better Than This, that came out in 2010. It was recorded and produced by T-Bone Burnett in historical locations like Sun Studios in Memphis, the First African Baptist Church in Savannah and a hotel room in San Antonio where bluesman Robert Johnson recorded.

After touring the U.S., Mellencamp will head to Canada before beginning a European Tour.

As for the singer's upcoming plans, his musical Ghost Brothers of Darkland County-a collaboration with writer Stephen King-will premier at Atlanta's Alliance Theatre in 2012. Liv Ullmann is set to direct and Meg Ryan may star in the stage production.

The soundtrack, produced by T-Bone Burnett, is nearly done and will include tracks written by Mellencamp and sung by Kris Kristofferson, Elvis Costello and Rosanne Cash.
