Cheyenne Mayor Rick Kaysen says he and other local government leaders across Wyoming are watching a variety of bills before the state legislature.

One such proposal is Governor Matt Mead's supplemental budget request for $25 million for local governments across Wyoming. Kaysen says that while he knows there are budget concerns in the legislature because of falling energy prices, it's important to note the money that would go to local governments would come from funds that are already available.

Kaysen says depending on the exact formula that would be used, Cheyenne would probably get about $ $2 million from the with other communities amounts of money depending on their population and the exact formula used to distribute the money.

Kaysen says another important item is legislation dealing with the issuing of electronic traffic citations.

He says lawmakers are considering setting up a statewide database that would allow police to automatically access motorist information from law enforcement agencies across the state, which would be useful for traffic enforcement.

The mayor says he is also following legislation on the use of drones by local law enforcement and legislation pertaining to solid waste issues, among other topics.
