Cheyenne Mayor Rick Kaysen says the demolition phase of the Public Safety Building project is now complete.

Laramie County voters in 2012 approved spending $25 million in sixth penny sales tax revenues to build a new home for the Cheyenne Police Department as well as the Cheyenne Fire and Rescue administration and other emergency responders.

The Cheyenne City Council in 2013 chose the former Dineen's Car Dealership as a location, in part because part of the existing building could be incorporated into the new structure.

The mayor says the demolition phase of the project, which destroyed the parts of the building that won't be included in the new structure, has now been completed. He says the construction phase is now underway, adding everything is on track for the new building to open in early 2016 as scheduled.

Kaysen says that while not all of the work on the building is being done by local companies, the city has tried to use local workers and companies as much as possible.
