Cheyenne Mayor Rick Kaysen says he supports the lottery bill currently being considered in the state legislature.

He says the issue is important to local governments in the state because 55 percent of the money generated would go to local governments. The mayor notes 41 other states have some sort of legal lottery, and he says he doesn't believe that would be the case if lotteries weren't generating money for governmental operations.

Kaysen also notes many local residents are already buying lottery tickets in Colorado, especially at an outlet located on the Wyoming-Colorado state line. Kaysen says he does have some concerns about people irresponsibly spending money on lottery tickets they can't afford, but he says the bottom line is that buying tickets "is an individual decision".
