Cheyenne Mayor Rick Kaysen says he will appoint Vicki Nemecek to lead the city Public Works Department on an interim basis when current Director Jim Elias retires next month.

Kaysen says he will also recommend that she be appointed permanent Director on January 5, 2015. Nemecek has been serving as Assistant Public Works Director since February of 2008 and had previously served in a number of other city posts since August of 2001.

She served in the U.S. Air Force from 1976 to 2001.

Public Works oversees the largest city workforce in Cheyenne and encompasses operations ranging from sanitation to transit to facilities maintenance.

The department also administers the city's portion of the Fifth Penny Sales Tax. Nemecek will officially assume the interim director position on December 5, the day after Elias retires.
